NanoPRO™ Industrial Demagnetizer

for Becton, Dickinson

Over the summer of 2021, I worked with TNMRT to design and fabricate an industrial demagnetizer for Becton Dickinson. The device was designed to remove residual magnetization from hypodermic needles used in insulin pumps. The product designed around the cRIO and programmed entirely in LabVIEW.

Our team consisted of 2 mechanical engineers, 1 materials engineer, and myself as lead electrical engineer. We designed the product for use in the UK at their 230V standard. The machine achieved European CE certification in late Fall 2021, and was installed at BD’s manufacturing facility in Dublin, Ireland.

Our demagnetizer configuration can completely demagnetize up to 500,000 needles ranging from 32-guage to the microscopic 34-guage at a time, in under 2 minutes.
